Society and sexuality, it is necessary to understand social representation, as a constituted process and constituent thought, which intervene in social life and in the ways of thinking and acting of each individual, in relation to the system of values and social norms in the ideological environment of the moment and of the group. Social representations are a pre-coding system of society, which govern the relationships of individuals with their physical and social environment, determining behaviours and practices, based on the historical context and social and cultural influences.

Over millions of years, human beings have obtained that social organisation, culture and mentality play an important role in sexuality. In Western society, sexuality has been conditioned by patriarchy and prevailing religions, resulting in a sexuality reduced to heterocentrism, coitocentrism and phallogocentrism.

Sex education, both social and institutional, has been based on fears, risks and taboos, giving a negative connection and reducing women’s sexuality to mere reproduction and endowing men’s sexuality with a double standard of fidelity. As a result, people have not been able to enjoy a free and full sexuality.

Although we live in the age of information and sexual freedom, paradoxically, sex education is still focused on the monogamous couple, reproduction and the use of contraceptive methods, leaving aside sex education focused on positive sexuality, focused on free and full sexuality, from the individual knowledge of giving and receiving pleasure, as part of holistic, physical, psychic and social well-being, from the respect for ourselves and the world around us.
